Dressmaking Scrapbook Vol. 1

I have done proper scrapbooking in the past (they are on my Gallery page under ‘Scrapbooking‘), with fancy papers and embellsihments. It is a really time-consuming hobby, and also after discovering dressmaking, I’ve lost motivation for scrapbooking a bit.

However, I’ve decided to make a simple scrapbook to document my dressmaking projects. I drew them using templates from a Fashionary book (I’m not affiliated with them), and made paper envelopes to house my traced patterns. I added a swatch of fabric with metal studs.

Here is my first Dressmaking Scrapbook, Volume ONE. It documents the first 20 handmade garments I’ve completed. You can click on the link at the bottom of each pic to see the post of each item.

That was fun! Both the dressmaking and the scrapbooking. It’s great to combine two crafts, the process and result is always satisfying. I’ve already started Volume Two! But it will take a long while to fill up. At the moment I’m only sewing maximum one garment per month.

Scrapbook: My Mother; Me.

Mak Kam Sheung (1950-1987), my beloved mother. Happy Valentine’s Day xo

I started making a scrapbook in loving memory of her, but being typically me, progress is so slow…

In fact, I’ve only done 5 pages :s

Missing you everyday, Mami.

I also started a scrapbook, a ‘ME’ album. Kinda given it up after a few pages…anyway, here it goes.

I’m really in two minds about whether I should continue with the scrapbook or not. It’d be nice, but there’s just too much to be documented, and that wouldn’t leave me much time to do other crafts like sewing…

Scrapbook: New South Wales Trip.

This scrapbook only needs 2 more pages to completion, and I still couldn’t muster the motivation to finish it!

And not surprisingly…it was like years and years since I’ve taken the trip (nearly 10 years ago….) :s

It’s one of my very early scrapbooks (ie when I had more time and energy). Experimenting with techniques and such.

Scrapbook: Malaysia, eternally Part I

This is one of those projects that I started ages ago and never get to finish off (well, in fact there’s 85% more to go until completion. Ahem.)

Went to Malaysia with my dear dad and sister years ago, and I was going to make a scrapbook of the trip.

I did get started, but after a few pages I lost momentum. And, here I am today, wondering if I’ll EVER complete it.

The trip was really fun, and I really valued the family bonding time.  I really want to finish the scrapbook for a complete memory, but scrapbooking takes So. Much. Effort….

Framed Treasures.

The moment I saw this photo, I knew I had to make it into a scrapbook page or display of some sort.  Little Ken is just too cute.  I turned the photo black-and-white as I’ve always loved a classic monochromatic hue paired with powder blue accents, and a baby boy theme is just perfect for it, so here it is.

Added chipboard, beads, rhinestone letters, plastic and fabric embellishments…

Triple-matting the photograph is the key to make it stand out in a busy background.  Foam tape helps heaps.

Framed it in a black shadow box.  It can be hung or can stand alone.  It makes a good personalised gift.

I guess any mother would like a picture of her cute baby framed and displayed in the home!

Tasmania Scrapbook.

I’m a very sloooooow scrapbooker and usually I end up leaving my photos for a few years before doing anything with them.  Then after I decide to start scrapbooking them, it takes me a few months to complete the album.  I’m just so glad that I get to finish this album – a few days in Tasmania – brings back good memories everytime I look at it.

Childhood Memories.

I love my childhood memories, times when I was happy and silly and goofing around.  When I was young and carefree and clueless about the challenges of growing up.  I wanted dad to remember this too, so I made this mini scrapbook for him to keep. Sorry blurry photos. Finished the book way past midnight and had to wrap it up in a rush. Low light and shaking hands = bad pics :(
