Back to sharing the sewing books I acquired in my recent trip to Hong Kong...I bought a Japanese-translated-to-Chinese book dedicated to making pockets, with pictorial instructions for each style, most of which are in black and white. I risk becoming a sewcial outcast by saying this, but I routinely omit pockets in dresses when sewing. That's because I like them too much, and always jam my hands in there stretching out the fabric and seams, and I keep putting things in there which become a disaster (chocolate that melts, tissues that break down and coat everything else in the wash etc). That said, I do want to make pockets for coats and shirts and pants 🧥👔👖- things I haven't attempted to make yet. The pattern envelope and line drawing for #v9186. I made View A. The "dip" of my dress hem is more pronounced as I took out 8cm of length across the bottom back, tapering along the slanted front hem to 0cm at the lowest point of the dip. The waist elastic is diagonal, extends partially to the back on the right side of the dress, and stops just short of the side seam on the left side. It's a shirt dress reimagined by the designer, but I chose not to make the sleeves (that's view B) because...it's too scary with the cuffs.
